Yes it does. Coedine is an opiate. Causes lethargy, euphoria, decreased heart rate, constricted pupils, shallow breathing, painkilling effects, etc etc.

Thank you. SWIM was nodding quite well last night on only 150mg of codeine along with couple valiums and two glasses of beer. indeed codeine is a bit sedating.. but swim can't sleep on it, swim nods off when swim.
