Our story begins somewhere in my teen years. This action was meant in part to combat codeine cough syrup abuse, according to Karch's.

It’s a dangerous world, but fortunay the U.S. government regulates cough syrup. What is unfortunate, perhaps, is the regulations don’t quite do the trick.

It didn’t sound like the thing for me, but I relayed this information to my peers. The more idiotic among them promptly started guzzling Robitussin DM while listening to Nirvana.

Since Codeine cannot be sold over-the counter in the US, I started to doctor shop, visit emergency rooms and eventually purchased medicine online.

I missed out on a lot of relationship years and I’m really only discovering myself now at the age of 40. It’s a little embarrassing to be excited about decorating your first apartment and wondering what direction to take your life and career in at this age -- for these are typically concerns that someone out of college has! But my life took a strange course and I feel like I woke up from a long sleep. Though I may be starting things a little later than most people, I am just so thrilled that I actually woke up!

Flash forward ten years and I was back in the hospital again.

The medicinal value of plants has been recognized by almost every society on this planet. In the nineteenth and earlier centuries, natural product extracts, particularly those derived from botanical species, provided the main source of folk medicines. In the latter part of the nineteenth century, biologically-active organic molecules began to be isolated in relatively pure form for medicinal use. For example, salicyclic acid, the precursor of aspirin, was isolated in 1874 from willow bark. More potent painkillers, such as morphine and codeine, were isolated from the opium poppy.
