Alternative Drugs to Vicodin, Acetaminophen, Percocet - ABC News

If the FDA decides to ban combination drugs such as Vicodin and Percocet, The panel also voted to keep over-the-counter combination pills.

Because nearly 42,000 people visit emergency departments each year with acetaminophen overdoses, half of which are accidental, eliminating drugs that aren't clearly labeled to have acetaminophen in them could decrease this number significantly, said Viscusi.

"This would be the best thing," said Viscusi.

What Pain Med would replace addicted VICODIN ??? - Addiction

Been taking VICODIN for 1 year, & am addicted to it, so no results are received any you may be using, both prescription and over-the-counter.

Good luck on your search!

You've probably become very tolerant to the effects of the hydrocodone narcotic in the drug. You might be okay with oxycodone which is slightly different from hydrocodone. Oxycodone can be found in Percocet, Percodan, Roxicodone and such drugs.

After years of Vicoden ES I was started on Fentanyl Patch at the lowest level and with time increased. Now I am on Kadian 60mg 1Xdaily and am doing great.

Been taking VICODIN for 1 year, & am addicted to it, so no results are received any more..Is there a substitute for same ??

I think that asking your Doctor to switch you to something like MS Contin or even the Fentanyl patch would be a good idea, and anyways you don't want to be on Vicodin long term. Vicodin contains Tylenol, and Tylenol has been proven to cause a lot of damage to the liver, so even the FDA is suggesting "black labeling" Tylenol, so is a good idea to stay away from it. I hope that you find a medication that works for you.

I am confuse..... You say that you are "addicted" to Vicodin??? Do you meant addicted or did you mean that you have created a tolerance to Vicodin and that now it does not work anymore for you??? There is a HUGE difference between addiction and tolerance.

An addict is a person that likes to get high with their medications and a person that do not take their medications as directed, they basically take them recreationally. A person like me, and probably you in chronic pain that has been taken an opiod for a long period of time becomes dependant on that medication, NOT addicted, and sometimes tolerance will happen.

Fentanyl may be a better option since it's not a closely related to hydrocodone as oxycodone. It does work on the opioid receptors in the brain but its a synthetic drug that is not derived from the opium poppy as the other drugs are.
