No, oxycodone does not have codeine in it. This drug is in Percocet (and others), which is a bit stronger than codeine. I don't know what prescription you (may).

Codeine has a low abuse potential and is often used in oral preparations in combination with non-opioid narcotics. The side-effect profile of codeine, a weak.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid agonist that is related to the phenylpiperidines. It is a highly potent and lipid-soluble opioid, which is mainly used by intravenous injection as a component of general anaesthesia. As an analgesic it is some 100 times more potent than morphine. A single intravenous dose of fentanyl has a more rapid action (5 - 6 minutes) than morphine, reflecting the greater lipid solubility, which also accounts for a rapid redistribution around the body and a short duration of effect.

Tramadol vs Other Analgesics

Tramadol compared to other opioid analgesics - codeine, meperidine, morphine.

Although tramadol can produce drug dependence of the mu-opioid type (like codeine or dextropropoxyphene) and potentially may be abused, there has been little evidence of abuse in foreign clinical experience. In clinical trials, tramadol produced effects similar to an opioid, and at supratherapeutic doses was recognized as an opioid in subjective/behavioral studies. Tolerance development has been reported to be relatively mild and withdrawal when present, is not considered to be as severe as that produced by other opioids.

Objective 3: Understand the pharmacology relevant to choosing an opioid for pain treatment in terminally B. Mild opioids: codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone.

Choosing an opioid.

B. Mild opioids : codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a simple and effective three-step process, or ladder ( Figure 1), for titrating pharmacologic therapy that provides effective pain relief for more than 90% of terminally ill patients.

A. The WHO ladder approach (stepped care) to pain management.

Step One: The first step of the ladder is to use acetaminophen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs to relieve mild to moderate pain.

Equianalgesia tables are used when switching from one opioid to another, or when switching routes of administration.
