CNS or respiratory depression (may be fatal in children), anticholinergic effects, orthostatic hypotension, photosensitivity, paradoxical excitement, changes in blood pressure, convulsions, jaundice, blood dyscrasias.
Only 4 drugs may be compared at once.
Children <6 years old. Asthma. Lower respiratory disorders. Coma. Post-op pain management in children who have undergone tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy.
Additive respiratory effects with concomitant other respiratory depressants (esp. in children). Concomitant epinephrine: not recommended. Increased extrapyramidal effects with MAOIs. Potentiates alcohol, other CNS depressants. Concomitant narcotics, local anesthetics: may lower seizure threshold. Caution with anticholinergics. May alter hCG pregnancy test and glucose tolerance test results.
