Would phenergan help me sleep while coming off opiate pain killers?

4 Answers (question resolved) - Posted in: phenergan, pain, sleep, detox, medicine, opiate - Answer: it does make you sleepy and helps you.

... have any ideas??? I need help!!!

Why doesn't your doctor safely, wean you down off of the opiates? Why put yourself through that misery in the first place? However, if that is the way your going to do it, and I certainly don't recommend it, you will need to take several hot baths a day for the leg twitching that you will have from the W/D, eat light meals several times a day, drink a lot of water, not caffeinated drinks or drinks with sugar. A's a nurse I highly recommend the Phenergan 25mg.

Promethazine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Promethazine is a neuroleptic medication and first-generation antihistamine of To potentiate and reduce the side-effects of opioids; Treatment for migraines.

Promethazine, 10-(2-dimethylaminopropyl)phenothiazine, is synthesized by alkylating phenothiazine with 1-chloro-2-(dimethylamino)propane in the presence of sodium amide :

Promethazine, a phenothiazine derivative, is structurally different from the neuroleptic phenothiazines, with similar but different effects. It acts primarily as a strong antagonist of the H 1 receptor ( antihistamine ) and a moderate mACh receptor antagonist ( anticholinergic ), and also has weak to moderate affinity for the 5-HT 2A, 5-HT 2C, D 2, and α 1 -adrenergic receptors, where it acts as an antagonist at all sites, as well.

* Note that many TCAs, TeCAs, antipsychotics, ergolines, and some piperazines like buspirone and trazodone all antagonize α 1 -adrenergic receptors as well, which contributes to their side effects such as orthostatic hypotension.

In 2009, the US Supreme Court ruled on a product liability case involving promethazine.

Promethazine blocks d2 receptors? According to wikipedia it does, and since opiate euphoria comes from dopamine, shouldn't that make it less.
